ATG Day 3 - Shod Hammers

Today's promp was: draw a pony training / draw a pony preparing

I took the chance to give a shot to a weapon I have had in my mind for a while, but never actually drew.

Alright, now here is the talkie bit:

These are shod hammers. They are one of those weapons that are entirely designed to be wielded by ponies. They consist of foreleg armor, and heavy shoes that are held to the hoof with screws and nails. This pair in particular has long nails on the soles, and it is intended to be used over dirt or other soft ground.

Shod Hammers are brutal weapons, able to shatter bones with a single swing. They also grant no extra range to speak of, so the wielder has to get close and personal to their opponent. They are not part of the standart equipment of any part of teh Equestrian army, but some officers use them as their preferred weapons. Only strong ponies can use them with effectiveness, usually earth ponies or specially large unicorns or pegasi.

Shod Hammers are sometimes paired with Buck Hammers, which are similar devices worn on the hindlegs. Princess Celestia owns a pair of Shod Hammers that include the blades from a Shod Claw. Along with Luna, she is probably the only pony in existance to be able to use them with the swiftness that the blades require.

Every since the episode 'Maud Pie' aired, I had the idea of Maud being in the Ground Guard. This is how she is represented in my fiction The Fall of the Sun.
